The American Reading Corps is pleased to announce the second workbook in the phonics workbook series titled, Reading Intellex! Your students will enjoy working on their CCVC/CVCC/CCVCC words alongside 16 fanciful characters with diverse personalities. Please review the preview pictures closely to see the various activities included in this resource. Examples include, decoding* regular words, Fry sight words, spelling, writing sentences, and reading controlled text multiple times to develop reading fluency. The text includes:

*Whole word decoding is a phonics technique designed to be implemented AFTER students receive instruction in the traditional process of segmenting and blending sounds in words. Whole word decoding activities give students the multiple opportunities they need to develop automaticity in decoding words. Each student in a small group gets an opportunity to individually decode 20 or more words within a 15-20 minute session. With traditional segmenting and blending instruction, an individual student may only decode 5-10 words, and often only as part of a choral response. These lists are an excellent resource to use for one-on-one tutoring as well. Programs developed by Lindamood-Bell, Wilson, and other Orton-Gillingham-based programs use lists like these in their remedial programs.
**Mary L. Spencer is the Founder/Executive Director of the American Reading Corps, LLC (ARC), a reading intervention and educational publishing company. Each summer, ARC provides daily, one-on-one, intensive reading intervention to students with Dyslexia and/or reading comprehension weakness. She also provides pro bono services each year. Her current client is the Denver Boys & Girls Club.
